Compatible capsules for Nespresso, A Modo Mio, Dolce Gusto and Bialetti: a buying guide
· 3 minutes read
Compatible capsules let you use the machine you already have with a coffee other than the machine maker’s own, often for less per cup. The only rule is to choose capsules for the right system: each machine only accepts the capsule shape it was designed for.
How to tell which machine you have
The system is almost always written on the machine or in the manual. If in doubt, look at the original capsules you used: shape and size differ a lot from one system to another. These are the systems we make Molo Caffè capsules for:
Nespresso® (Original)
Small, truncated-cone capsules for Nespresso “Original” machines (not Vertuo). We offer them in the Blu blend, creamy and balanced, and the more delicate Oro.
Lavazza A Modo Mio®
Wider, flatter capsules for Lavazza A Modo Mio machines. Available in the Blu and Oro blends.
Nescafé® Dolce Gusto®
Large capsules for Dolce Gusto machines, which also make drinks other than coffee. Besides coffee in the Blu and Oro blends, for Dolce Gusto you’ll find many capsule drinks: tiramisù, crème brûlée, hazelnut, ginseng, camomile, herbal teas and more.
Bialetti®
Capsules for machines of the Bialetti “Il Caffè d’Italia” system. Available in a pack of 50 or as a 270-capsule supply with the Blu blend.
Lavazza Point®
A system often used in offices. We offer Lavazza Point compatible capsules, 80 pieces, with a full taste in the tradition of Neapolitan espresso.
Which blend to choose
Our capsules mainly come in two blends: Blu, balanced, creamy and sweet, perfect every day; and Oro, with the highest share of Arabica, for those who prefer a delicate, fragrant coffee. To find out more, read our guide to the Molo Caffè blends.
How many capsules to buy
Capsules come in packs from 45–50 up to 2000. At 3 coffees a day, 100 capsules last about a month and 300 about three months. The same rule applies: the more capsules you choose, the less you pay per cup — every product page shows the price per capsule for each pack size.
Our tip: if it’s your first order, start with the smallest pack to check that the capsules work well with your machine, then move on to the better-value sizes.
Frequently asked questions
Do compatible capsules damage the machine?
No: compatible capsules are designed to the dimensions of the system they are made for. As with the originals, keep the machine clean and descale it as often as the manufacturer recommends.
Are capsules the same as pods?
No. ESE pods are 44 mm discs of filter paper for pod machines; capsules are rigid containers for one specific system. If you have a pod machine, read our guide to ESE 44 mm pods.
